Hormones And Regain After Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve Surgery. What You Need To Know!!
In this episode of the gastric health show, we discuss how the following hormones….
- Cortisol
- Insulin
- Thyroid
- Sex Hormones (Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone)
can have a significant impact on regain after gastric bypass, gastric sleeve surgery.
The stress hormone and weight regain connection
Stress has a powerful impact on your hormones. Cortisol, your stress hormone, will rise with any real or imagined threat. When you are continually stressed (or worry) for long periods of time, your body creates a hormone imbalance.
If left untreated, this imbalance increases blood sugar which inversely increases your insulin level which directly leads to increased belly fat.
This is one of many examples of how your hormones can drive weight regain after gastric bypass, gastric sleeve surgery not a lack of will power
Sex hormone imbalance and it’s connection with weight regain after weight loss surgery
Unfortunately, sex hormones are not adequately monitored by most conventional medical practitioners including Bariatric Surgeons, their staff or your typical family physician. This is extremely unfortunate for weight loss surgery patients as your sex hormones are typically way out of balance after gastric bypass, gastric sleeve surgery.
In fact, many female weight loss surgery patients experience changes in their menstrual cycle due to this imbalance. If this sex hormone imbalance continues untreated. It often creates increased carbohydrate/sugar cravings, alcohol consumption and you guessed it weight regain.
Again, just another example of how your hormones drive regain and not a lack of will power.

I loved the recipes… easy and my husband loved them, as did I. I felt full and satisfied. I have not had a low blood sugar since following your 10 Day Back on Track Class Meal Plan and that was my goal.
Plus, the loss of 4 pounds was an added bonus. Looking back I realize I was not eating the right foods therefore I was having low blood sugars. I have a whole new way of thinking when it comes to eating thanks to the Gastric Health Club and to you Dawn! Thanks!!
