Uncovering the lock & key to weight loss resistance

We are continuing our discussion on “Why would someone not lose weight after WLS?”  In Part one we discussed the obvious, less obvious and not so obvious reasons why you may experience weight loss resistance.

In Part 2, we identify the lock and key to improving weight loss.

“Certain genetic variations affect how we regulate energy(calories) and make us more genetically prone to weight gain & slow weight loss”

What regulates gene behavior?

Your Genes are the lock and cofactors are the key.  Cofactors have a powerful way of silencing & activating gene behavior unlocking one’s ability to lose weight.

Cofactors are very specific vitamins and minerals necessary for these powerful reactions to occur.   If you are deficient in essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids the key may not fit in the lock.

Unfortunately, a risk of WLS is deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids.  This includes roux-en-y gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, long-limb roux-en-y gastric bypass and duodenal switch.

The gut health and cofactor connection

If cofactors are the key to influencing your genes then you cannot ignore where your body absorbs nutrition.  Your gut(intestines) is where vitamins, minerals, fatty acids & amino acids are absorbed.  An unhealthy, inflamed or leaky gut will compromise your bodies’ ability to absorb nutrition.   Therefore influencing gene behavior.

If you are struggling with weight loss resistance

First off, I would say don't lose hope!  If you have unmet realistic goals,  I would love to work with you on optimizing your results.  I have worked with tens of thousands of WLS patients helping them identify those not so obvious causes contributing to weight loss resistance.  Weight loss isn’t only about diet and exercise.  There are many factors that can influence your results.

Your future health awaits
