BAM…Bloated Again!
Do you feel bloated?
Have you ever wondered why your abdomen feels tight, hard or painful?
Consequently, feeling bloated can make you look pregnant when you’re not. It makes you feel full on a small amount of food making it difficult to eat. This is especially concerning after WLS.
In Episode 045 we discussed the connection of histamine and bloating. In the same vein, this podcast is identifying yet another cause of why you are bloated.
Bile acid malabsorption(BAM).
What is Bile Acid Malabsorption?
Bile acid malabsorption is when your body is unable to adequately absorb the bile. Unfortunately, when too much bile arrives in the colon several symptoms occur, including bloating.
Symptoms of bile acid malabsorption
In addition to bloating, BAM causes several other concerning symptoms:
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Fecal incontinence
- Gas
- Abdominal Pain
- Greasy stools
- Urgent, frequent stools
- Hard to flush stools
WLS is a risk factor for BAM. If feel bloated, as well as other symptoms you may want to consider bile acid malabsorption.
