Cravings can be a sign that your body is out of balance. When you are struggling with cravings for sugar, carbs, salty, crunchy foods you may want to think about poor sleep.
Poor sleep habits
In the world of technology, you can easily get lost scrolling for hours derailing sleep. Although technology isn’t the only thing to blame, let’s dig into how many hours is adequate.
Adequate rest
All healthy adults should sleeping seven to nine hours a night. We have ninety minute sleep cycles. We should get at least 5 sleep cycles per night.
Sleep and food choices
In the Journal of Appetite 2018 found that a lack of a good nights rest increased your desire for high fat sweet foods. It also changed the behavior towards more sweet and savory foods.
A study published in the Journal of Nutrients 2019 found an interesting finding. They decreased sleep by 33% in normal weight women who already slept seven to nine hours a night. The sleep deprived group had increased hunger, tiredness, increased portion sizes and increase in their food reward.
