Improve protein digestion with gingery pear smoothie
Improving your digestion is important after weight loss surgery. Your stomach acid has important roles in digesting food. If stomach acid is low, so are pepsin levels and in the end proteins don’t get broken down into their component amino acids and peptides.
Lack of stomach acid can lead to many health problems including weight gain
This can lead to a deficiency of essential amino acids, which are instrumental in many processes in the body including building and preserving muscle, healing, making cells, hormones, vitamins & minerals, sleep, anxiety and depression.
The goal is to keep the stomach acid pH between 1-3 for optimal digestion. WLS patients stomach acid pH is typically found between 5-7.(read more here)
