Description

Gastric Health DGL for Heartburn

Heartburn can be debilitating after gastric sleeve and gastric bypass surgery.  Finding safe alternatives is important.  In fact, DGL has been found in several head-to-head comparison studies to be MORE effective than Tagamet, Zantac or antacids in both short-term and maintenance of peptic ulcers.

Gastric Health DGL not only helps with heartburn, but is a safe and effective option for weaning off of proton pump inhibitors(PPIs).

DGL, the deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) a chewable, rapid-action formula designed to aid digestion and support the normal production of stomach acid.

  • Promotes healthy digestion
  • Ensures the maintenance of normal stomach acid level
  • Enhances the body’s ability to synthesize glutathione, an antioxidant
  • Provides healthy inflammation in the mucosal lining and epithelial tissue of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Contains no hypertension or other negative effects associated with unprocessed licorice
  • Contains a pleasant flavor of licorice
  • Contains no fructose or sugar

Description

DGL supports the gastric mucosa through a fast-acting, chewable formula of deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL). This product contains glycine, calcium glycerophosphate, and DGL in a standardized, high-quality form. In addition to having a pleasant licorice flavor, DGL is free of fructose and sugar. Xylitol, mannitol, and Luo Han Guo extracts are added to sweeten it.

DGL Root Extraction

A traditional herb with various medicinal applications, the licorice root is used to derive deglycyrrhizinated licorice root extract (DGL). A variety of species are involved in the production of licorice root, including G. glabra, G. uralensis, and G. inflata.

The chemical composition of licorice consists of more than 400 compounds, including saponins, flavonoids, isoflavones, coumarins, and stilbenoids, all of which are thought to contribute to a variety of health benefits, including the maintenance of gastric mucosa and the lowering of inflammation.

Ingredient Highlights

  • Support a healthy intestinal mucosa with 500 mg of DGL.
  • This formula contains deglycyrrhized licorice to prevent hypertension and other possible adverse effects of raw licorice.
  • Glycine 200 mg supports the synthesis of bile acids, fat digestion, and glutathione synthesis.
  • Calcium glycerophosphate 100 mg, to support normal gastric acid levels

Licorice: The antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory & antioxidant component of DGL

  • Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant properties

Several mechanisms lead to licorice root exerting anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It activates the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). The Nrf2 transcription factors are redox-sensitive and stimulate antioxidant activity by binding to antioxidant response elements. Additionally, it inhibits the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB) activity, which promotes inflammation and is produced during inflammation.

Several digestive disorders are associated with inflammation and oxidative stress, including peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, and gastroesophageal reflux. Taking licorice root may help support healthy redox balance and inflammation for such conditions.

  • Relieve recurrent gastric damage

In studies, licorice was found to relieve recurrent aphthous ulcers and heal gastric ulcers. Additionally, it reduces the risk of aspirin-induced damage to gastric tissue and may also reduce the risk of NSAID-induced damage to gastric tissue and is beneficial for IBD.

  • Antimicrobial properties

A study has shown that licorice also possesses antimicrobial properties, which may inhibit Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that causes ulcers, gastritis, and tumor development. The use of licorice as adjunctive therapy is also possible. As well as inhibiting the formation of biofilms, DGL also inhibits Streptococcus mutans, the primary agent responsible for human dental caries.

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice minimizes licorice extracts negative effects

Studies have found that glycyrrhizin, a triterpenoid saponin in licorice extracts, is associated with hypertension and hypokalemia. It blocks 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase enzymes (HSD) and interacts directly with mineralocorticoid receptors. 11β-HSD is responsible for the interconversion of cortisol and cortisone. A blockage of 11β-HSD may therefore cause cortisol to be converted into cortisone and excess mineralocorticoids to accumulate in the body.

Moreover, glycyrrhizin may suppress the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, which may lower blood pressure, increase hypokalemia, cause metabolic alkalosis, induce heart arrhythmias, and cause edema. The deglycyrrhizinated of licorice root extracts makes DGL safer for use.

Glycine: The Bile acids, Fat digestion, and Glutathione synthesis Promoter

  • Ensures proper digestion of dietary fats

Glycine is an amino acid that is a conditionally essential amino acid associated with conjugated bile acids, which may have an impact on fat digestion. In the liver, bile acids are conjugated with glycine or taurine to increase solubility before they enter the bile. The gallbladder stores bile acids that aid in the digestion of fats and fat-soluble vitamins after ingestion and aid in the digestion of dietary fats.

  • Maintain Redox Balance

An essential function of glycine is to create the antioxidant glutathione, which may help maintain redox balance.

  • Reduce Inflammation and Restore Glutathione Synthesis

Studies show that taking glycine supplements may also have anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce oxidative stress and associated damage by restoring glutathione levels and concentrations. As an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, it may help alleviate digestive disorders caused by oxidative stress.

  • Supports Epithelial Antioxidant Defenses

Experimentally induced colitis has shown that glycine protects intestinal epithelial cells from oxidative damage by supporting epithelial antioxidant defenses. According to research, glycine assists in the prevention of esophagitis, acid reflux, and gastro-duodenal damage from diclofenac.

Calcium: Supports healthy stomach acid levels and digestion

  • Maintain a healthy level of stomach acid

In the form of calcium glycerophosphate, calcium may act as an antacid to maintain healthy stomach acid levels. Several disorders, including hyperchlorhydria, may be supported by calcium-neutralizing gastric acid.

  • Maintains intestinal permeability and gut epithelium integrity

In addition to increasing lower esophageal sphincter tone and improving peristalsis, calcium may also help with GERD and peptic ulcers. Caco-2 experiments have shown that calcium glycerophosphate preserves intestinal permeability and gut epithelial integrity.

Recommended Use:

Before a meal, chew 2 tablets daily or as your healthcare provider prescribes.
